Fall Member Spotlight

🌟 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Coaches nominated Laurie after watching her commitment to health and wellness, while also honoring her body! Laurie attends consistently, pushes herself constantly and is a great attribute to the Proven fam!

What brought you to the gym?

– I found Proven Fitness through one of your previous coaches during some personal training sessions.  I was searching for a fix to the glute, hip flexor and piriformis issues I was having since my hip replacements.  I was in search of finding a fitness program to keep me strong, healthy and prevent the need for any more joint replacement surgeries.

What was your first impression?

My first impression was that I was not young, fit or flexible enough for Crossfit.  I had no idea of all the scaling options that are available.  I am so glad I took a chance in joining because I have never felt better.  I no longer experience any of the pain I had for 13 years since my first hip replacement.

What was your first Proven moment?

It’s hard to pick a moment because I am constantly getting stronger and increasing my endurance, but I will have to say after about 2 years I was able to do box jumps.  It took a lot to trust myself in order to attempt the box jumps.  All the coaches helped me along the way with scaling options that helped to improve my confidence performing this skill.

What are you working on now?  

I know that there are some skills that I will never have and I am okay with that.  My mindset is to accept where I am and push myself above that so I can continue to improve, but not so much that I set myself up for injury.  At my stage in life I am just about staying injury free and fit.  I do want to improve my upper body skills; pull ups and push ups specifically

What’s your favorite gym moment?

My favorite gym memory is every day that I come to work out.  I love the variations in the workouts and actually enjoy feeling drained after the WOD.  My favorite experience so far is the energy in the box during the 12 Days of Christmas.

Coaches nominated Dysmar after watching her show up regularly during quarantine and returning to the box to keep growing in her fitness journey! Dysmar challenges herself daily and never gives up!

What brought you to the gym?

I moved from South Florida to this area because my husband had to relocate for his job.  While looking at houses we looked first for good schools and second, for a nearby CrossFit box.  

What was your first impression?

My first class was on a Saturday so there was a team workout. I really appreciated how Kyle and everyone had good vibes and made me feel welcomed.

What was your first Proven moment?

It was in during an Open workout.  I went in knowing that I was not going to complete the WOD because pistols was one of the movements. Once I got to the pistols I told Matt “I don’t have pistols”, and he said “Ok, let’s see”. With the clock still running Matt gave me some stretching exercises and pointers and before the time was up I got 3 pistols done! That was a very exciting moment!

What are you working on now?  

Patience. Not only with the pulling of the bar while snatching, but patience with myself. I’m trying to build upper body strength so I can finally do pull-ups!

What’s your favorite gym moment?

– Friday nights during the Open are my favorite! I just love seeing everyone being positive, trying their best and cheering each other.
